“All Motor Powerfest” U.S. 13 Dragway!

Nickerson Performance along with H & J Motorsports sponsored the 4th annual “All Motor Powerfest” held at U.S. 13 Dragway on September 21st.

U.S. 13 Dragway has historically been a record setting event as the cooling night air fuels these all-motor combinations making more power and setting new records along with many stellar performances. This year proved no exception with these racers putting on the best show of the season!

G-Force 10.5 racer Ann Erb took the spotlight when her mean green AMX unexpectedly shot skyward with all four wheels off the ground!  Ann kept it under control and landed her all AMC 435 ci powered racecar safely to a stop with minimal damage. No doubt, Ann takes the Rocket Brand Race Fuels wheelstand of the day award!

Larry Rhodes was taking out his G-Force 10.5 competition one by one. A first round win over Jim Mackenzie would be followed by a second round winning pass of 8.666 @ 154 mph over Leonard Long’s 8.683 @ 158.33.  Henry Jackson would be the next victim of the ’68 Camaro in the semi’s, however carnage would follow Rhodes in this semi’s round when a loose fuel line would catch fire mid track sending Larry to the finish line with an unwelcomed orange glow trailing behind.  The fire system did its job; Larry was not hurt and the car suffered minimal damage.  These circumstances would prevent Rhodes from making the call to the lanes for the finals round against reigning class champion Charlie Booze.  As the teams gathered to watch, Booze would make an easy lap down the track to claim his fourth G-Force 10.5 victory of this 2008 season!

Ram Racing Drag Radial heavy hitters Ron Rhodes and Jeff Kinsler were not only out to win this race but shatter class records with the first Ram Racing Drag Radial pass to dip into the 8 second range.  Both combinations, very well capable of achieving this milestone with Rhodes’ proven championship winning Camaro facing the 499 ci big block powerhouse of Jeff Kinsler’s Pontiac.  Round one heard the cheers and excitement of the crowd and crew as Ron Rhodes put down a stout 8.961 @ 149.30!   Kinsler would be ever so close in his next run against Tony Manizza showing a 9.003 @ 151.64 mph.

Rhodes and Kinsler would once again face off in the finals. A hard launch sent Kinsler looking at the stars as the Pontiac went up on the bumper with Rhodes finishing the winning pass of 9.135 @ 148.39.

Liberty’s Gears PRO NA has experienced some growing pains over the past season with some old faces rebuilding and some new faces appearing but this race would be shorthanded car-wise but definitely not short on excitement as Number one qualifier Jack Gaydosh and his Pro Stock GTO would find himself in the final against Merve Moyer and the Leonard Long owned and prepared small block powered former Pro Stock Mustang. The 7.213 from Gaydosh would be enough to back up his previous 7.183 record as he would get the win against Merve’s 7.439. The points battle continues on to the season finale where the 2008 PRO N/A champ will be determined.

Purnell Body Shop AMI class, soon to be an everyday household word, is still on the move as this race proves to be as exciting as the rest. 12.50 racer Stan Riley takes top honors on the qualifying list as the 31 car field knocked itself down to 2 final survivors. Darin Stine and his Pontiac against Kevin Walsh’s Road Runner. The 12.00 car of Kevin’s would get the headstart, but Darin’s better reaction time and 10.00 index combined with the cool night air of DelMar will push the two side by side thru the traps with a double breakout and the Pontiac of Stine coming out the victor, 9.991 to an 11.891. We also want to mention Ralph’s Towing’s best light of the day for the AMI class would go to Tom Guellich with an incredible .000 light.

We would like to thank all the spectators and racers who came out to our event at US 13 Dragway and to the management of the track for giving us a great place to race as our tour comes thru. We want to thank all of our sponsors who made this race possible, and we also would like to thank the Supercar Series and the 422 Allstars for putting on a terrific show with us. We look forward to seeing you all at our last stop of the season on October 25th at Cecil County Dragway.
